Amuse-Bouche

  • Perez Hilton puts Miss America contestant on the spot with a polarizing question on Gay Marriage. Why was he a judge in the first place? Surely the powers that be who decide these things would know he would take full advantage of a platform that has that kind of scope. Miss California should have been prepared to receive a such a question with Perez on the panel. The level of stupid and bad judgment on all parts here is off the richter scale.
  • Madonna just fell off her horse, because if paparazzi did leap out of the bushes startling her mount, this would have been in her statement for the police report, which it isn't.  I'm sure were the paparazzi around, there would have been opportunistic photos of the incident, which there isn't. Maybe Madonna just needs to point the finger elsewhere for her inability to remain seated on a horse, which she shouldn't.
  • The film adaptation of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is in the works with Peter Jackson directing.  Cast members include Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci and Susan Sarandon. This is a bit of a departure for Jackson I think and it will be interesting to see the result. I hope he does the book justice. I do think that the officially released photograph is a little underwhelming and very reminiscent of Heaven Can Wait (1978), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?

  1. I think she was a Miss USA contestant, or something other than Miss America - but I agree it was a stupid question to ask and I have to admire her somewhat (although I don't agree with her) for sticking to her guns.

I loved that book "Lovely Bones" and I'm going to be pissed off if they mess it up in the movie. I've already learned that "My Sister's Keeper" has a different ending than the book. Dammit, if they are going to make my favorite books into movies, I wish just once they'd stick to the book.

  2. What Syko said.

Haven't read "Lovely Bones" but I'll put it on my list. I need a book to read after the book I'm gonna read next, so the timing works out well. Not sure if that makes sense. It sounded OK in my head. Time for another drink. Night, night!

  3. Oh, 'zilla, it's wonderful book...it really touched my heart and I cried at a couple of parts. Happy ones...I'm sure Syko knows which parts I'm talking about.

    Anyway,
    What Syko said :-)

...and my bad for confusing Miss USA with Miss America, I didn't realize they were two different pageants.

  4. Yeah, if I remember right - Miss America is a pageant unto itself, but Miss USA goes on to compete in Miss Universe. I may be wrong. I was once or twice.

  5. I thought the question was brilliant, and I HATE Perez. I also don't know why he was a judge, but I love that he asked that question.

While I appreciate she followed her beliefs and didn't try and make something up to win votes, I simply cannot respect anyone who feels they have the authority to decide what's best for other people and judge them based on something they would certainly never allow someone else to judge them on. I have always despised intolerance (which I know sounds like an contradiction) but this whole gay marriage issue has made me even moreso. And after watching "Milk", I could see myself becoming involved in gay rights were I living in an area there were movements. (I live in hicksville, BFE!)
