Amuse-Bouche

  • Eminem is putting down his philly cheesesteak and inducting Run-DMC into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 4th. Their re-make of Aerosmith's 1975 classic 'Walk This Way' in 1986 "became Hip-Hop’s first Top 5 single, and laid the blueprint for future rock-rap hybrid acts in Faith No More, Korn, and Limp Bizkit." (AllHipHop.com) Good God, the best they can come up with is these three? The Beastie Boys' 'Licensed to Ill' came out in 1986 with '(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)' which, if not bigger than Run-DMCs remake, was at the very least parallel in influence. But hey, if AllHipHop.com wants to blame the aural diarrhea that is Limp Bizkit on Run-DMC, be my guest.
  • 'Big Brother' UK reality show star Jade Goody passed away from cancer  (Now MagazineUK). I don't know really how I feel about her being so public with her final days with the disease.  What do you think: Did she degrade herself by courting this publicity or was she being brave in sharing her struggle?
  • I'm ashamed to post this. Actually, I'm more ashamed of National Geographic. What a bunch of lame-o squares! This is supposedly a pictorial of Toronto Culture. Where's Gay Pride? Where are the crackheads? Where is our amazing architecture and the hotdog vendors (best 'street-meat' in the world my friends, bar none so I've been told); Where are the mounted police and the road apples? Not one picture of our fabulous skyline at night. Anyway, here are some uderwhelming pictures (National Geographic) of my hometown. I suggest viewing right before bed. I know, you're probably thinking I'm already running out of material. Thankfully, that's not the case, so babies, don't you panic.
  • You MUST see this documentary Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science if you're interested in cryptozoology. This is, to date, the definitive source of information and theories on the Sasquatch. Very well done.

  1. The pics of Toronto ARE disappointing - most of them could have been taken anywhere.

And yes, Mick Jagger. Suddenly a little more appealing. Hmmm.

  2. How retreaded is that disclaimer Syko?? I'll fix asap...

They probably were taken anywhere :-(

I agree with you about Jagger, but I'd still have to put a bag over his head.

  3. I almost forgot to comment on Jade Goody. It's my thought it wasn't degrading OR brave - I suspect she did it to make money. I'd have done that too, if it was a way I could provide comfortably for my small children I was going to leave behind. And even if she scared as few as 10 or 20 women into getting the routine examinations, finding cancer and catching it in time because of her, then that's a good legacy too.

  4. Oh yes - agreed on the bag for Jagger. :)

  5. I wrote a whole blah blah blah about Jade Goody... it was good, too, dammit, lol... but I don't know how to "Comment as" with my ID... it's through yahoo, but that's not an option.

    *sigh*

  7. I agree about Jane Goody, Syko. And you can count me as someone who's been scared into getting screened.

Bummer about the Toronto picks. However, the story did remind me to mention that my husband lived there for a few seconds, in Markham and Stouville (might have butchered the spelling). He's originally from BC (outside Vancouver), but he followed a pre-Codzilla girl out east.

  8. I tried to post it, and lost it Baho... so sad.

LOL, oh well... I was going to say "life will go on" but considering the topic was the death of Jade Goody, that might be in poor taste.

    ?

    pleh

  9. "I was going to say "life will go on" but considering the topic was the death of Jade Goody, that might be in poor taste." - Not at all, sounds like something I'd say without thinking...

Codzilla, Stouffville is probably THE most boring place in the world - except they do have the Markham-Stouffville fair. It's mostly populated by the "horsey set" - not to be confused with "horse people" if you get my meaning.

  10. God, I hate the horsey set. I used to ride competitively, and, as a result, had to endure more of those assholes than I care to count.
