I Want a Do-Over

International Women's Day somehow flew over my radar. It was March 8th and I didn't even notice. I probably didn't notice because I live in a First World country where women have it pretty good. I should be ashamed of myself because I consider myself pretty socialistic and cognizant of all manner of struggles, except it seems, the one of my own gender - unless I make a point of thinking about it.

We have it so good that some vapid dames out there are actually 'anti-feminist' and think women have too many rights, never mind adding more.  These Palinite bitches are probably more aware of International Women's Day than I am simply because it's one of the many 'feminist' needles up their asses.

These are fascists who don't want women anywhere to have any rights or securities at all: Condoms for Africa? NO! Abortion under any circumstance? NO! Equal access to jobs and education? NO! (get your fanny back in the kitchen, you don't need to wear a watch, there's a clock on the stove!) Birth control? NO! NO! and furthermore, NO! This is a chorus of overproductive uterii telling women what to do with theirs: "Women, you are not a human being, you're a walking womb. That's it. Now be a good girl and behave and stay away from those 'feminazis.' You can run for office but only if you're one of us and not a lesbian political climber like Hillary Clinton."

Good grief.

I am so sorry for forgetting such an important day. I have no excuse for having the privilege of standing on the shoulders of those who came before me and being oblivious to their sacrifice.  The women of the world, particularly the Third one, are waiting.

March 22/09 UPDATE: Thanks to Syko who sent me the link; It's bad enough that female genital mutilation or 'circumcision' is happening elsewhere in the world but this barbarism is now in our own back yards.

  1. Sometimes those of us who have things so good forget about the millions who do not.
